After hearing feedback from English learners who needed a better way to certify their proficiency, we released a free beta version of the test called the Duolingo “Test Center”. This means that Duolingo has the capacity to evaluate your English skills in a pretty short amount of time—and only does so on a computer, whereas IELTS is offered in both computer and paper-based forms. DET was developed by Duolingo and grew in popularity and acceptance at universities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
